Particle Analyzer Thermo Scientific 1405 TEOM
This ambient air particulate monitor is the replacement for the successful Thermo Scientific TEOMTM 1400ab Environmental Particulate Monitor, and is the reference equipment of air pollution monitoring networks worldwide for continuous measurement of particulate mass concentrations.
The system differs from other PM measurement methods by using a direct mass measurement that is not subject to the measurement uncertainties found in surrogate techniques such as beta attenuation, light scattering and pressure drop.

- A known volume of air is ducted through a size-selective inlet, which can be configured to measure PM10, PM2.5, PM1 or TSP and deposited on a self-advancing belt filter. The combined measurement of mass and volume of air are used to obtain the mass concentration reading.
- The 5014i model uses Carbon-14, as a source of Beta radiation, continuously measuring the mass concentration for PM10, PM2.5, PM1 or TSP fractions, through the use of Beta attenuation technology.
- The sample air volume is precisely controlled by means of a subsonic orifice.
- The Model 5014i advances the particle-laden filter sample according to user-defined parameters, such as mass accumulation limits, time intervals or flow rate range in relation to pressure changes.
- The filter belt will advance in a continuous pattern, as compared to stepwise measurement, resulting in the mitigation of particle losses. Additionally, the filter belt will advance if the sample exceeds the maximum load criteria.
- The Dynamic Heating System (DHS) allows the user to maintain the sample temperature as a fixed value or below a relative humidity threshold. The result is a system that heats only when necessary, eliminating the effects of humidity and ensuring that volatile aerosols remain intact for accurate measurement.
