- The Thermo Scientific Model 17i for ammonia analysis is an analyzer that uses, as its basic principle, the light produced in the reaction of nitric oxide (NO) with ozone (O3).
- Mode 1: While operating in NO mode, the sample is mixed with ozone in the reaction chamber. This reaction produces a characteristic luminescence with an intensity directly proportional to the NO concentration.
- Mode 2: In NOX mode, the sample passes through a molybdenum converter which reduces the NO2 present in the sample to NO. This is then transported to the reaction chamber where the sample is measured as NOX (NO+NO2).
- Mode 3: In the 3rd mode, the sample NT is passed through the stainless steel converter, where NO2 and NH3 are converted to NO. These are then measured as NT (NO+ NO2+NH3).
- The software subtracts NO from NOx and NOx from NT and provides NO2 and NH3 outputs respectively. The 17i analyzer can therefore provide NH3 output signal together with NO, NO2 and NT shown on the display or through its signal outputs (4-20 mA, 0-10 V, 0-5 V, RS232….).
- This state-of-the-art gas analyzer offers features such as an Ethernet port and Flash memory as a data storage extension.
- Ethernet connectivity provides efficient remote access, allowing the user to download measurement information directly from the instrument without having to be on site.
